{As Seen In...} Styling Allison McGevna for PMM

Last month I headed to NYC to create fall plus size fashion magic for the pages of PLUS Model Magazine.  I always love working with the east coast team, and this issue is especially close to my heart because I got to style my friend and amazing plus size model, Allison McGevna for the cover of my favorite PMM issue of the year... the September Fall Fashion Blockbuster!

The September Issue is the biggest issue of the year for any publication.  Summer is winding down just as the issue hits the newsstands, retailers and designers collections are in production, being shipped, and starting to trickle into stores, and summer sales and clearance have been in full swing since late July to make room on the sales floor for fresh fall fashion!  In comes the September issue... perfect timing for magazine ad sales and gorgeous fashion editorials to set the tone for the season and get consumers inspired to spend.  Not to mention the back-to-school shopping push, and the natural inclination to want to refresh your wardrobe as a new season progresses.

This year's fall fashion is highly influenced by the 90's through and through- color, silhouette, pattern, styling, and overall attitude. The runway shows presented a combination of literal throwbacks resurfacing and more subtle inspirations being pulled for modern interpretations.

For Allie's cover and editorial feature, Maddy and I took a refined and sexy approach to the prominent fall trends, highlighting all the important colors, prints, details and fabrications to create the story of a chic, plus size city girl who is ahead of the fashion curve and makes no apologies!
I spent countless hours putting a clear vision together in my head of the looks I wanted to create for this "Fashionable Fall" editorial, scouring designer look books and online stores to extract the most fashion forward "straight off the runway" plus size pieces to include in my editorial story.  Sometimes I have mental notes for a head-to-toe look, and other times my focus will be on a specific stand out garment that I know I want to feature, then I pull it all together on set.  Some of the gorgeous plus size fashion included in this story includes: City Chic, Forever 21+, Simply Be, Doncaster, ASOS Curve, and Ashley Stewart.
For Allie's story, my trend focus included:
- plaid
- leather
- camouflage
- velvet
- oxblood
- fall floral
- black & white
- geo accessories
- houndstooth
- faux fur
- safari chic
- mirrored prints
- zipper & chain metal detailing
- metallic, waxed & quilted fabrics

How do you make these trends work for you and your personal style?
I have broken down each look and offered tips to take these trends straight of the pages of PLUS, and into your closet with my feature, Picture Perfect Style {check it out in the issue, starting on page 153}

Behind the scenes snaps...

Our quote of the weekend to justify the non-glamorous part of our jobs... "It builds character!"

It is always worth it when we see the issue go live on the first of each month!
