Trying Something New

In this month's issue of PLUS Model Magazine, I created a feature called "Try Something New- Rejuvenate Your Style..." where I highlighted 5 super easy ways to breathe new life into your plus size wardrobe. I am always urging my clients to "think outside the fashion box" and challenging them with a "why" when they come at me with an "I can't wear that".  It is not about WHAT you wear, but HOW your wear it. Fit is everything, and plus size trends can be incorporated appropriately to ANY wardrobe.

It's a brand new year, and 2013 is all about change, growth, and moving forward, so I decided to take my own advice and try something new!
I recently attend The Curvy Fashionista's #TCFTurns4 blogiversary party at the W Hollywood Drai's Nightclub and I stepped outside my own fashion box with a few plus size styles that are new for me- peplums & pencil skirts!

My go-to styles are usually include tunic tops, a-line skirts, and empire waist dresses, which are perfection for my "more in the middle" body type, but, fortunately I took a chance, tried it on, and this peplum/pencil skirt combo ended up being a success!  The flare of the peplum top is the perfect camouflage to the tummy area, and the straight skirt is sleek so that the sheer panel, embroidery, and peplum ruffle in the top can shine!

*Style Tip:  Longer, more extreme peplums work best for "more in the middle"
body types, rather than a shorter, more petite peplum ruffle, which may work against
you, and accentuate, rather than flatter the mid-section.
The placement of the peplum is key... too high can accentuate a tummy, and too low can
add bulk at the hips.  The perfect peplum sits just in the right place for you!

Special thanks to Nick Holliday for snapping these pics!
